Romanian military officially accused in Kosovo riot deaths

The Romanian officers working in the UN forces in Kosovo are guilty for the death of two Albanian manifestants in February 2007, an UN report released on Tuesday shows. The document indicates that two Albanians were killed and another one injured by the rubber bullets shot by the Romanian officers.

Special UN prosecutor Robert Dean declared in a press conference that the death of the two manifestants was "useless", given the fact that they did not represent a threat at the moment they were shot.

"Although it may be argued that the death was an accident, this should not be a reasonable doubt on the fact that opening fire was a criminal act".

Romanian decided in March to withdraw the contingent from Kosovo, despite an appeal from the UN for the participation of 11 officers in the investigation.
