The Public TV station (TVR) tabled the activity report on 2006 in the Parliament. According to a TVR press release, the institution suffered losses adding up to some 17 million RON (some 5.1 million euros).
General manager Tudor Giurgiu claims that the situation is not desperate and invokes similar cases of other European public TV stations.
"The losses are not significant, compared to other public TV stations that have been losing money for many years, as it currently happens in Spain, France, Finland, Portugal or Norway", says Giurgiu.
Despite his explanations, the members of the board in TVR consider that Giurgiu's resignation would be an honorable gesture. Six out of 11 members of the board voted for demanding this resignation.
