Dan Voiculescu, the head of the Conservative Party (PC), and his daughter Camelia Voiculescu faced anti-graft prosecutors in a secret hearing on Monday, the public television announced.
The two are investigated for money laundering in an embezzlement case related to the Romanian Lottery. They spent two hours at the headquarters of the National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) to provide explanations and learn about the exact charges brought against them.
Dan Voiculescu, whose small party was part of the government until it withdrew last year, is charged of helping former deputy PM George Copos, also a PC member, to launder money obtained by the sale of National Lottery assets. Copos is suspected of having transferred the money in the personal accounts of the Voiculescu family and those of Voiculescu’s Grivco company.
George Copos and former Romanian Lottery manager Nicolae Cristea - also investigated in a separate lottery-related case - are also expected to show up at the DNA this week.
The criminal inquiry against six people, including the four mentioned above, was opened March 30.
