Three Swiss journalists accused of publishing secret data on CIA activities in Romania

Military prosecutors in Switzerland have charged three journalists in the country of publishing secret information on CIA activities in Romania. According to Romanian radio station Europa FM, the data resulted from a fax which spoke about an alleged interrogation of terrorism suspects at a US base in Romania.

The journalists are charged with publishing in early 2006 a faxed document on supposed „detention centers and interrogation methods” practiced by CIA agents. The fax showed 23 Iraqi and Afghan citizens were interrogated at the Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase in Romania, which is used by the US.

The document was strictly confidential and had been issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and then intercepted by Swiss intelligence services. It was the first such document where a state confirms the presence of CIA prisons in Europe.
