UK Ambassador to Romania supports bear protection campaign

UK Ambassador to Bucharest Robin Barnett said on Tuesday that he supported a campaign sponsored by several organizations including HotNews.ro to protect and save bears held abusively by restaurant owners in Romania.

He said during a visit to a bear reservation in Zarnesti, Southern Carpathian mountains, that he would push up the "Save the bears" campaign initiated by the Libearty reservation, Radio 21 station and HotNews.ro.

Ambassador Barnett said he would establish a series of meetings with local authorities to support the campaign.

The initiator of the campaign, the Million Friends association through the bear reservation Libearty from Zarnesti, focuses its efforts on saving bears held captive abusively by restaurant or inn owners across Romania and hosting them in the biggest such shelter in Europe.
