European Commissioners Leonard Orban, Meglena Kuneva and Franco Frattini disagreed with some of the current aspects of the draft report that is to be presented by the European Commission officially on Wednesday, regarding the progress registered by Romania and Bulgaria in the justice sector, European officials say, quoted by Reuters as cited by the Romanian news agency NewsIn.
According to the sources, Frattini did not agree with some of the criticism addressed to Bulgaria and asked for a more moderate tone.
However, Reuters notes, the majority of EC members supported the tone of the document, arguing that the Commission can only rigorously maintain the credibility of the EU expansion policy.
The quoted sources stated that the general tone of the report would not change even though there would be small rectifications before the meeting on Wednesday.
According to Reuters, Romania and Bulgaria will be criticized by the EC because they did not manage to fulfill the settled EU objectives in reforming the justice and the fight against corruption. The agency adds that there will be no sanctions against the two countries but the next period, both countries will face more detailed objectives.
