Nongovernmental credit rose 3.8 % in May


Romania's nongovernmental credit rose 3.8% in May this year as compared with the previous month, up to 106.49 billion Romanian lei (RON), according to the National Bank data published today. The credit in national currency grew 4.4 % while the credit in foreign currency converted in Romanian lei advanced 3.2%. In euro, the foreign currency credit rose 4.9%.

As compared to last year’s data, the nongovernmental credit registered a 49.1% boost due to a 50.3% higher RON component and 47.8% higher foreign currency component in RON equivalent.

Foreign currency credits for residential consumers grew 4.8% in May while RON-financed ones rose 4.5%. Compared with May last year, the foreign currency credit rose 80.8%.

In May, Romanians saved 0.6% less than in April

The resident deposits of non-governmental clients dropped 0.6% in may as compared to April 2007, up to 98.22 billion RON.

Romanian lei savings of the population rose 1.0% up to 34.13 billion RON. At the end of May this year, residential RON deposits reported an advance of 45.9% as compared to lasts' year period.
