Romania smashed Luxembourg in Euro 2008 qualifiers

Romania defeated Luxembourg 3-0 in the latest match of the Euro 2008 qualifiers, a victory which brings Romania to the lead of the Group G for a few hours before Holland defeated Slovenia on Wednesday night.

Adrian Mutu, Cosmin Contra and Marica scored for Romania, bringing the team to the second place in the group, before Bulgaria, as Stoichkov’s team failed to defeat Albania the same night.

Adrian Mutu’s goal in min 25 was doubled by Contra 25 minutes later. The final blow was delivered by Marica in minute 90.

“This confirmed what I said after the 0-0 in Rotterdam [Holland, Saturday night] - we’re favorites, and we’re in a good position. I of course am glad that one rival, Bulgaria, stumbled on her home turf”, Romanian coach Victor Piturca said after the match, referring to the no-score game between Bulgaria and Albania in Sofia.

Group G
Holland 14 (8-2)
Romania 11 (10-3)
Bulgaria 9
Belarus 7
Slovenia 4
Albania 3
Luxembourg 0
