Bear killed American tourist in Romanian mountains

A bear attacked and killed a US tourist in Romania’s popular Bucegi Mountains on Saturday, Romanian news channel Realitatea TV reported. According to witnesses, other tourists had previously taken photos of the bear, harassing it on the mountain plateau which seems to have caused the bears’ restlessness and violence.

Left behind, the Americans were attacked by the bear and the woman died because of a spine fracture and sliced arm, while two other persons were injured. After the attack, the bear also assaulted some tents in the area but fortunately no victims were registered.

Saturday, a group of tourists made up of two Israeli citizens, three Americans and one Romanian left the Bucegi mountain resort in order to reach a chalet in the mountains. Due to unfavorable meteorological conditions, the funicular did not function and the tourists had to walk all the way. The group found the chalet full and, while trying to reach another, they were attacked.

National Park Administration employees organized a search team to seize the violent bear and prevent other incidents.
