Constitutional Court: 1989 Revolution and 1990 miners' mayhem move to civil courts

The judges in the Romanian Constitutional Court (CCR) decided on Wednesday as anti-Constitutional a paragraph in the Criminal Procedure Code according to which trials that begun in a military court must continue and end also in military courts.

Several NGOs issued a protest at the beginning of the week, claiming that the law makes the investigations and trials start all over again.

After the article of the law was declared as anti-Constitutional, the trials may soon move to civil courts.

Important political, Army and Police figures are involved in the files, including former president Ion Iliescu.
