President Traian Basescu held a speech on Thursday in front of the Romanian Academic Society, discussing once again the political influence in Romania's economy. He also approached issues like labor force crisis, the lack of a national post-accession strategy and the over-inflated energy consumption.
The president considers that Romania must avoid a division between rich and poor after the accession to he European Union. "Romania has an economy that can be labeled in many areas as "only for the privileged", where the equal opportunity policy doesn't work and ordinary people haven't got a chance, because they didn't get to know politicians", said Basescu.
Still, the president is optimistic, with a series of positive predictions for the economy, like a 6% growth in 2007 and a 5% inflation rate, figures that may even improve.
