Snow storms that affected much of Romania over the past several days are about to give way to warmer days starting today as snow is expected only at local level in Western, Northern and Central Romania and winds still blowing in some mountainous areas.
Romania faced a wave of low temperatures and snow storms starting last weekend after a month of unusually warm weather for mid-winter. However, meteorologists predict temperatures will rise again in the coming days, ranging between a minimum of -10 degrees in some areas and +7 degrees in regions where weather is generally milder.
Bad weather led to the closure of several Black Sea ports and two national roads on Monday and affected electricity supplies to 123 towns and villages. The most affected counties are Bihor, Cluj, Satu Mare, Alba, Brasov, Harghita and Sibiu.
Capital Bucharest saw its first snow this year last night but only in small quantities.
