58% of Romanians maintain the highest level of trust in President Traian Basescu while 25% trust PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu more, according to a new poll. The study, produced in January by the IMAS research institute, shows that if elections take place tomorrow and the governing Liberals (PNL) and Democrats (PD) run on separate lists, the PD will get 30% of the votes, followed by PNL with 16%.
The main opposition party, the Social Democrats (PSD) would get 16%, while the New Generation Party (PNG), led by populist businessman-politician Gigi Becali, would place fourth with 12%, one percentage point above the far-right Greater Romania Party (PRM).
Meanwhile, the poll shows 54% of Romanians believe the situation evolves in a good direction in Romania, while 39% believe otherwise.
And 35% believe the current government does its job better than the previous PSD government, 35% say its performance is just as good while 24% believe the former government fared better.
