Procedures to list Romanian gas transport company Transgaz at the stock exchange will conclude this year, when similar procedures will be launched for Romgaz, Hidroelectrica and Nuclearelectrica, other major energy companies in Romania, as part of a longer-term energy strategy pushed by the Economy Ministry in Bucharest.
The strategy will span three phases up 2030, Economy minister Varujan Vosganian announced on Tuesday.
A first phase, in 2007-2008, will have Romania focus on meeting its obligations as a EU member state. The priorities will be market liberalization, an institutional strengthening of the market, aligning domestic prices to international ones, improving ecology measures in the mining sector and improving the legislation in the energy sector.
The next phase, due to last until 2014, will have Romania conclude its nuclear energy program by starting operations at the second reactor of the Cernavoda nuclear plant this year and of two others in 2014. Romania will also focus on its involvement in larger projects such as Nabucco or Constanta-Trieste as well as on developing renewable energy programs.
The aim of the third and last phase, to end in 2030, will be to balance the domestic production with existing resources and to diversify energy resources for the country.
