Massive power failure hits Bucharest

Several quarters of Romanian capital Bucharest were hit by massive power failures on Monday afternoon that brought to a halt mobile and Internet communications and wreaked traffic havoc as street lights were off.

The affected included 1 Mai, Stefan cel Mare, and Turda, while electricity supplies stopped for several minutes at two subway stations. It was not immediately known what caused the power failure.
