Cold makes first victim in Romania


A man died of cold this weekend as winter took strong hold of most of Romania. Temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius and below have been affecting most of the country for days and the first snow falls affected traffic on many national roads.

The first victim of cold was a homeless man from the northern Romanian city of Baia Mare, according to the Realitatea TV news channel.

Snow falls and road glaze affected traffic considerably on DN 18, one of the main roads that crosses the northern region of Maramures. The same was announced for the road linking the cities of Buzau and Brasov in center Romania, as well as National Road 1 linking Bucharest with the north-west of the country.
