Belgium ratifies Accession Treaty for Romania

King of Belgium Albert II signed the Accession Treaty for Romania and Bulgaria last weekend, according to sources within the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Belgium is the 23rd EU member state to have ratified the Treaty, after the French Senate voted it on 3 October.

Germany and Denmark need to ratify the document by 31 December so that Romania and Bulgaria can become EU members on 1 January 2007.
